“Read the Orphan X series。 You’ll thank me later。"—David Baldacci

Gregg Hurwitz's New York Times bestselling Orphan X returns
—just when Evan Smoak thinks he's done, his deadliest job yet pulls him back Into The Fire。。。

Evan Smoak lives by his own code。

Once he was known as Orphan X。 Trained as an off-the-books government assassin and spoken about only in whispers, Evan Smoak was one of the most talented—and most feared—men in the Program。 But he broke free and reinvented himself as The Nowhere Man, a figure shrouded in mystery, known for helping the truly desperate。

If anyone is truly desperate, it’s Max Merriweather。

Max is at the end of his rope。 His cousin has been brutally murdered, leaving Max an envelope that contains nothing but a mysterious key。 However, someone really wants that key, badly enough that Max—and anyone he turns to—is in deadly danger。 What seems like a simple job for The Nowhere Man turns out to be anything but。 Behind every threat he takes out, a deadlier one emerges and Evan Smoak must put himself in greater danger than ever before as he heads once more Into The Fire

Oh Evan Smoak, I love you more with every book。 I get so excited with the release of each book in the Orphan X series, and I always worry that I'll be disappointed - but it hasn't happened yet。 This one made me laugh out loud so many times (as Evan learns more and more how to behave in a human relationship) and brought me near tears more than once。 And then there's the adrenaline charged, hard charging action that Hurwitz brings to every book in the series。 The Nowhere Man is certainly a larger-than-life character, but wow is he fun to follow, especially as the characters he allows into his world increase, albeit ever so slowly。 The bad guys are truly awful, and Evan helps his "client" in more ways than one - this time in part because of what he's begun to learn in his own life。 Just fabulous all around。 I loved it, and have to add that I listened to part of it and Scott Brick's narration was amazing, as usual。 My thanks to Netgalley and St。 Martin's Press/Minotaur Books for providing a copy for an unbiased review。

I'm liking Gregg Hurwitz more and more。 Looking forward to completing the series and moving to some of his novels and other series。

My favorite in the series (so far)! "He looks like an ordinary man。 He is not。"

And he pulls it off again! Too unusual for a series to have this good a wind-up with so few books - shows uncommon reserve and class。 Bravo。 Well 。。。 a wind-up of Evans X life at least。 Theres a title listed for 2021。 I cant wait。 And he pulls it off again! This is a perfect thriller。 I dont really read as many of these 500 page tomes anymore, but this one flew by。 With the Nowhere man planning on the current mission being his last, after taking out the orphan killers in the last novel, he is planning on moving on with his life。 Though this mission which seemed simple at first kept growing and he realised that it reached to the upper echelon of city politics including police。 And he has to eliminate everyone to make sure his latest client stays This is a perfect thriller。 I dont really read as many of these 500 page tomes anymore, but this one flew by。 With the Nowhere man planning on the current mission being his last, after taking out the orphan killers in the last novel, he is planning on moving on with his life。 Though this mission which seemed simple at first kept growing and he realised that it reached to the upper echelon of city politics including police。 And he has to eliminate everyone to make sure his latest client stays safe。 Also it takes you more into his life and his relationships with others who help him at times。Highly recommended, it can be read as a standalone but I think the first 4 are so good you might as well read them all in order。 。。。more

Into the Fire is my first Hurwitz thriller。 Evan Smoak, Orphan X is the redeemer-vigilante to the most desperate and the action never stops。

Already read。

As usual, this strains credibility and plausibility, but Hurwitz keeps you turning the pages。 The ending seems a bit rushed。 Joey adds a lot as a character in this series。

Audible listen。 Excellent part of this series。 Thus is a fun listen。。。。 plenty of action, some humor, suspense。。。。you do have to suspend your belief some, but that's Ok!The narrator can make or break the listen enjoyment。。。 Scott Brick is excellent! Recommend!

Ended too soonAnother great book in the Orphan X series - more of a feel of vulnerability compared to some of the others。

Susan Coley

Do you really need 27 villains attacking you at every turn, only to resolve the issue in the last 30 minutes of the audiobook?

Harry Addington

I just love this series。

This is the ultimate!! Airport book, that is。 Awesome to grab off the bargain bin and leave it behind when you're done with it。 Pros: it moves, it's easy to read。 Cons: boy, I don't have that much time today。 I'll just say that this book might as well be science fiction and that the author seems to be angling to attract a younger demo? Every single page that the character Joey is in contains at least 4 and a half face-twisting cringe moments。 It's like your dad on Instagram。 Solid 2。5 stars, I'd This is the ultimate!! Evan Smoak continues to be a likable skilled assassin that helps people in serious trouble。 This book has the usual action and unrealistic feats but overall it's not as fast paced as previous books。 Evan seems to be off his usually sharp game partly because he seems distracted about this being his last mission so he can have a more normal life。 In this book I couldn't really connect to any of the new characters so that made it a less interesting。 Max and Violet felt hollow and the bad guys kept Evan Smoak continues to be a likable skilled assassin that helps people in serious trouble。 This book has the usual action and unrealistic feats but overall it's not as fast paced as previous books。 Evan seems to be off his usually sharp game partly because he seems distracted about this being his last mission so he can have a more normal life。 In this book I couldn't really connect to any of the new characters so that made it a less interesting。 Max and Violet felt hollow and the bad guys kept being replaced by new bad guys so it was difficult to feel antagonistic about any of them。 For me, this book was closer to 3。5 stars but I like the series and protagonist so I rounded up to 4。 。。。more

Seems to me that the author is getting better as he goes。 I enjoyed this book as I enjoy all from this series。 Looking forward to the next book and hopefully a spin of series with Joey。

Great read, this is one I couldn't put down!

Diogenes

A comic book adventure with a super-hero who overcomes assassins, fighting dogs, and bad cops, even while dazed with a concussion。 Probably thrilling for pubescents, but so far beyond credible that it verges on satire。 Extreme never-ending action, almost to the point of camp。 And the bad guys are American-Armenians! Beware, autistics, you're in there, too。

Mark

Closer to a movie storyboard than a great novel。。。 but an enjoyable read nonetheless。

John Hodgkinson

The previous four books in this series were reasonably good, although sometimes they berged on the ridiculous。 This one, hoever, went over the line almost from the start and the storyline was completely unrealistic。 In fact, the actions and deeds of the main character are so outrageously OTT that theu make James Bond look like an eight-to-five office worker!

Mike Salmon

Intense and riveting! Excellent read!

Maggie

It's so fun to listen to another Orphan X audio book。 Missed you Evan, Joey, Mia, Peter。
